Abstract:
Template matching
is the process of aligning two or more images. This study aims to present a
comprehensive review and comparison of the performance of classical as well
as recent template matching techniques. For each class of techniques, speed-up
mechanisms are considered. Both exact and approximate mechanisms are studied,
including Successive Elimination Algorithm (SEA), Partial Distortion Elimination
(PDE), Bounded Partial Correlation (BPC), B.P. Lewis's method, polynomial-based
Fast Template Matching (FTM), multi-resolution schemes (pyramids) and frequency
domain computation. Experimental results are presented to support the analysis
and comparison.
